A skull fracture in Florida can be a very serious injury. When you strike your head with enough force to fracture the cranial bone, it may also result in damage to your brain, although this is not a foregone conclusion. Because of the potential for brain injuries, treatment for skull fractures can be different from the management of other broken bones.

According to Healthline, the signs of a skull fracture can be subtle and not always easy to recognize. They may not seem related to the head injury at first and may even appear at a location other than the site of the trauma.

At the trauma site, you may observe redness or warmth, swelling or severe pain. These are serious signs of a skull fracture and should receive medical attention. However, other serious signs do not occur at the trauma site. These include bleeding of the nose, ears or eyes. Clear drainage can also occur at these sites.

Another serious sign indicating a possible skull fracture is bruising of the face. This goes by different names depending on where it occurs. When the bruising occurs around the ears, potentially extending onto the neck, the name for it is Battle’s sign. However, when bruising occurs around the eyes, it goes by the descriptive name of raccoon eyes.

A skull fracture can result in additional symptoms of headaches, confusion, drowsiness and blurred vision. It can also cause symptoms that may not seem related to the skull fracture at first. These can include stiff neck, nausea or vomiting.
